Miniature Schnauzer's Health
Miniature schnauzers are originate from the mid 19th century and are the result of cross breeding of Schnauzer dogs and smaller breeds of dogs like Poodles. They are a one of the most popular breeds of dogs to have due to their easy-going, loving and friendly personalities as well as only being small meaning they are easier than larger dogs to take care of.
Miniature Schnauzers, just like the standard breed of Schnauzer dogs are often described as energetic, free spirited and alert this can sometimes be seen on walks when they like to explore in hedges and have a good run about. Like all dogs when exploring it might lead to few scratches but nothing too serious, but it is always a good idea to have a good insurance cover behind them just in case.
Miniature Schnauzers are in a healthy breed, though health problems tend to occur if they have a poor diet and become overweight, this is something that can easily happen due to them being a small breed of dog so it is important that they have a balanced healthy diet. Some health issues that have been the result of becoming over weight are; hyperlipidemia, this is when a high level of lipoproteins and/or lipids appear in the blood. These fatty molecules can lead to heart problems because of it resulting in high cholesterol levels; hyperlipidemia can also increase their chances of getting pancreatitis.
As a breed they are known to sometimes suffer from Comedone syndrome, this is where bumps of pus form on their backs but it can be treated through tablets, they can also suffer from problems as a result of their size like bladder stones. They are a breed that requires grooming; particular attention should be given to their eyes and ears in order to prevent infections developing. Again problems that might occur with Miniature Schnauzer’s are nothing that a good pet insurance won’t cover them for!
